Statement of Purpose Sample for BSc Pharmacology at University of Chester, UK

Having worked as a senior pharmacy assistant at the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Lagos, I have a concrete understanding of the role of clinical pharmacologists in promoting and ensuring a healthy, safe, and efficient use of medicines to improve a patient’s health condition. The way I applied my toxicology knowledge, and experience to assess and manage the clinical care of patients whose drugs or other substances have been poisoned led to my appointment as the Senior pharmacy technician at the Nigerian Navy hospital at Okokomaiko in Lagos. Over the past two decades of working in the Nigerian public health sector, I have been concerned with the effects of endogenous and exogenous substances on tissue and organ functions. As a result, this enhanced my ability to offer quantified information on compound efficacy, potency, and, ultimately, side-effect liability and therapeutic index to patients and colleagues. Unfortunately, my efforts to solve the several challenges faced by the pharmaceutical sector in Nigeria are insufficient to provide a lasting solution. The government needs help to control the unlawful importation and selling of poor counterfeit medications. The scarcity of legitimate drug items is also a huge concern. However, bagging a bachelor’s degree in pharmacology at the University of Chester will help me to conduct in vitro research (using cells or animals) or Vivo research (using whole animals) to forecast how specific medications will affect humans. The BSc program in Pharmacology at the University of Chester aims will offer me the theoretical understanding and practical training required to connect post-genomic molecular biology with physiological function and drug discovery. In addition, I will be able to undertake research to aid the discovery, development, and sufficiency of legitimate drugs in Nigeria.

My academic background aligns perfectly with my dream to pursue a career in pharmacology at the University of Chester. I first became interested in pharmacology when I started an online course in Physiology at Duke University & Public Health at the University of People, where we were taught about the physiological processes of the body & actions of medications. As an undergraduate studying BSc Health Education at the University of Lagos, I was exposed to Cell and receptor pharmacology, tissue and organ pharmacology, and the pharmacology of the nervous. My academic sojourn as a pharmacy technician at the Nigerian Army Medical School helped me to learn about the essential principles governing how drugs impact the human system. As a professional health care assistant at the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Lagos, I discovered the vital role of pharmacology in a clinical setting and real-world scenarios. However, my dream to have an in-depth understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, including how these ideas are used in real-life situations, clinical settings, drug discovery, and development, can only be achieved at the University of Chester.

The University of Chester is the best place for me to study because pharmacology is being taught by enthusiastic academic and professional staff who will help me throughout my studies. From my findings, I discovered that the academic staff at the institution are involved in research and works hard to promote research in the field of pharmacology. This will allow me to embark on research that will shape Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry, including health and medicinal policies. Also, the series of national and international conferences available for students at the University of Chester will help me to explore novel and targeted delivery innovations, antisense oligonucleotide therapeutics, and RNAi innovations. Studying at the University of Chester will allow me to work on my research dissertation as part of a team and exchange ideas with scholars from different socio-cultural backgrounds.

In addition, studying in the United Kingdom will help me learn from internationally leading experts from big pharmaceuticals and biotechs. This will help me to stay abreast with the emerging therapeutic applications of RNA with case studies on the treatment of neurological disease, cardiovascular disease, and oncology. My decision to study in the United Kingdom is influenced by its outstanding health sector. Studying in the UK and at the University of Chester will help me have a successful career in Pharmacology.
