Detailed Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations or designate, performs, implements, plans and evaluates nursing care and immunization services for their own work assignments within the competency and practice guidelines established by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), current legislative scope of practice and Fraser Health (FH) policies, procedures and protocols, within a community health setting. This position will be required to travel to various locations across the Fraser Health region.
Responsibilities
- Participates in immunization clinics through activities such as screening for vaccine eligibility, obtaining informed consent, and preparing and administering approved vaccines. Identifies and reports reactions, and transfers care as appropriate. Advises client or guardian about possible adverse reactions and contraindications. Provides after care instructions and related documentation.
- Assesses and monitors client’s actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs on an ongoing basis.
- Provides a supportive environment for the client; contributes to the development and modification of client’s plan of care; attends and provides input into interdisciplinary care planning meetings.
- Plans, organizes and establishes client care plan priorities when providing care; responds to unexpected events and changing client needs within scope of practice and competency guidelines.
- Performs nursing care according to identified policies and procedures, technology and Fraser Health standards; evaluates outcomes, records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated staff.
- Documents and updates relevant care, procedures and immunization service provision as per BCCNM standards of practice and FH guidelines as appropriate, including statistical data collation and entry.
- Participates in quality improvement and program activities to maintain consistent level of care and to ensure that interdisciplinary team members work collaboratively.
- Maintains a safe working environment for the client and others by adhering to established safety policies; reports unsafe conditions and/or malfunctioning equipment.
- Assists in the orientation and education of new staff, students and other members of the interdisciplinary team, in collaboration with the Manager or designate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Grade 12, plus graduation from an approved program of Practical Nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and current certificates in CPR Level C or equivalent and First Aid. Successful completion of Immunization Competency Course for Licensed Practical Nurses.
Valid BC Driver’s License and access to personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
