Job Description

Provide leadership and support to the nursing team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to residents in accordance with regulatory standards, best practices, and the home’s policies and procedures.

*Oversee and manage the day-to-day clinical operations of the nursing home, ensuring effective coordination and efficient use of resources.

*Assess the needs of residents and develop individualised care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, considering their physical, psychological, and social well-being.

*Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided, conducting regular audits, assessments, and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

* Mentor and supervise nursing staff, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their clinical skills, knowledge, and professional development.

* Act as a resource for clinical expertise, providing consultation and advice to the nursing team, residents, families, and other healthcare professionals.

* Ensure effective communication and collaboration among team members, promoting a culture of open communication, respect, and professionalism.

* Monitor and manage medication administration, ensuring accuracy, compliance with protocols, and proper documentation.

* Respond to emergencies and crisis situations promptly and effectively, ensuring appropriate interventions and reporting procedures are followed.

* Collaborate with external healthcare providers, such as doctors, specialists, and allied health professionals, to coordinate resident care and facilitate access to specialized services when needed.

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including care plans, progress notes, incident reports, and medication records, in accordance with legal and organisational requirements.

* Stay informed about current developments in nursing practices, regulations, and research, implementing evidence-based practices and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

* Participate in quality assurance programs, peer reviews, and clinical governance activities to maintain high standards of care and contribute to the home’s quality improvement initiatives.

* Foster a person-centered care approach, respecting the rights, dignity, and preferences of residents and promoting a comfortable and homely environment.

* Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement policies, protocols, and guidelines related to clinical care, infection control, health and safety, and risk management.

* Compliance: Ensure the nursing home operates in compliance with the relevant legislation, regulations, and standards set by CIW.

* Registration: Understand the registration requirements and processes for nursing homes, including the application, renewal, and any changes to registration.

* Quality and Safety: Promote a culture of quality and safety within the nursing home, adhering to CIW’s standards for cleanliness, infection control, risk management, and health and safety.

* Staffing: Comply with CIW regulations regarding staffing levels, qualifications, and training requirements for nursing and care staff. Ensure appropriate staff-to-resident ratios are maintained to provide safe and effective care.

* Care Planning and Documentation: Follow CIW guidelines for person-centered care planning, including assessment, documentation, and review of care plans. Ensure that all necessary records, including medical, medication, and incident reports, are accurately maintained.

*Safeguarding: Understand CIW’s safeguarding regulations and procedures to protect vulnerable residents from abuse, neglect, or harm. Implement appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures within the nursing home.

* Medication Management: Comply with CIW’s guidelines for safe and effective medication management, including proper storage, administration, documentation, and staff training.

* Complaints and Feedback: Be aware of CIW’s requirements regarding complaints handling, feedback mechanisms, and resident and family engagement. Ensure that a system is in place to address and resolve complaints in a timely and appropriate manner.

* Inspections and Reporting: Prepare for and cooperate with CIW inspections and assessments, providing requested information, documentation, and access to facilities. Understand the process for reporting incidents, accidents, and notifiable events to CIW.

* Continuous Improvement: Embrace a culture of continuous improvement, incorporating feedback from CIW inspections, resident and family surveys, and internal audits to identify areas for enhancement and implement necessary changes.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years experience as a Clinical Lead/Deputy Manager. Must hold valid NMC PIN No.
