- Writing a good personal statement takes time, so be patient during this process. Don’t be shy to write and rewrite until you get your best statement. Remember that the quality of your statement will determine if you’ll be accepted or rejected for your desired course.
- Start on time; don’t wait until its few days to deadline.
- Do a thorough research about the university and the course that you’re applying to. Learn all you can about the trends in that discipline and it’ll help you harness your ideas.

The purpose of life is usually fulfilled in service to others and anytime I am opportune to render service to others, particularly the vulnerable, I find joy and fulfilment.
As a young girl, I remember my first time assisting my mother to care for my grandmother who was bedridden. I still recall how I enjoyed every minute that I put into caring for her and the excitement in my house when she returned to full health and could do some minor things on her own. After her recovery, my parents praised me for my contributions towards ensuring my grandmother’s recovery. You can imagine the effect such appreciation from my parents had on me. That experience gave me a sense of responsibility, since I have finally discovered something that my parents were proud of, it was now normal for me to seek more avenues to support people, even when they were not my relatives. It didn’t take too long before I developed into that sibling and classmate who was always looking out for others, I was always the first to know when someone was sick in my house, and I will ensure that they get the right medical treatment and followed their prescriptions so that they could recover on time.
Years after, as I grew in knowledge, my interest in people transcended from just something I did to get adulation from my parents, I began to understand that caring for people is my nature. Being there for people, listening to them when they need help, advising and suggesting solutions to their problems came naturally to me no matter the environment I found myself in. And though I’ve spent the last couple of years working in a non-related field, the fact remains that; nothing gave me more fulfilment like the times I had to genuinely support my colleagues, not even the promotions I got.

Occupational Therapy caught my attention when I was searching for disciplines that will enable me to work with vulnerable people of different age groups while helping them improve their lives.
