The North London Hospital Trusts and GP Practices are working together, looking for talented, passionate, and committed individuals to be part of our Trainee Nursing Associate programme in NCL.

Nursing associates work across many different health and care settings, delivering high quality and hands on person-centred care under the direction of registered nurses.

The training programmestarts inOctober 2022and is delivered as a two-year full-time workplace-based apprenticeship combined with a Foundation Degree at Middlesex University.

You will be employed in a North Central London healthcare setting – an NHS Trust, a General Practice, or a Nursing Home.

The Nursing Associate is a new role which bridges the gap between existing nursing care support workers and registered nurses; its introduction was the biggest shake-up of the nursing workforce in 40 years.

What does the training involve?

  • Two-year full-time apprenticeship combined with a Foundation Degree at Middlesex University, starting October 2022
  • Study with Middlesex University
  • Allocation of host NHS Trust, a General Practice, or a Nursing Home in North Central London
  • Placements across health and social care settings in North Central London
  • Chance to earn and learn WITHOUT building a tuition fee debt

Your duties are likely to include:

  • providing personal care to patients of all genders
  • performing and recording clinical observations such as taking people’s blood pressure, temperature, and pulses
  • undertaking clinical tasks like venepuncture (puncturing veins as part of a medical procedure, for example to take a blood sample) and undertaking wound dressings
  • supporting patients, their families, and carers when faced with unwelcome news and life-changing diagnoses
  • discussing and sharing information with registered nurses on a patients’ condition, behaviour, activity, and responses
  • ensuring the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained
  • recognising issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults

Your standard working week can include a mix of shifts, i.e., nights, early starts, evenings and weekends.

The North Central London Nursing Associate programme is run by a group of highly performing primary and secondary health care providers based in the boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, or Islington, and delivered in partnership with Middlesex University. As an apprentice, youwill be hosted by one of the recruiting partner employers – for the October start this includes: North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust,Whittington Health NHS Trust, orGP Surgeries in North Central London – Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington. NB You will be asked to indicate your 1stand 2ndchoice of employers when you apply but the final placement will be confirmed at the end of the recruitment process. You will work full time on a fixed, 2-year contract*, and receive a salary of between £20,300.33 and £21,700.77 pa (depending on allocated employer there may be also a high-cost area supplement of £3,518 – £6,405 pa) without the need to pay any university tuition fees.

  • NB Extending the initial fixed-term contract will be at the discretion of individual employers.
