About the position
Due to continual growth and development the City is seeking a full time Technical Officer – Horticulture to join the Parks and Contracts team. The position contributes to the effective management of contracted landscaped areas.
With a proactive and team driven approach you will possess knowledge and experience in public open space landscape maintenance and management.
You will be responsible for:
- Managing designated landscaping and asset maintenance contracts ensuring contractual compliance.
- Operational leadership, providing direction guidance and coaching to staff under direct supervision.
- Scheduling and undertake site and safety inspections to ensure works are undertaken in line with specification requirements.
- Overseeing landscape upgrades from initial scoping to completion within budget and agreed scope.
- Undertake contract procurement processes in line with policies and procedures.
- Development of technical specifications and maintenance programs.
- Liaising with customers and stakeholders to deliver service excellence, ensuring that information is accurate, consistent, clearly communicated and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Providing an asset management service, including inspecting, recording and validating landscaping asset information, in accordance with established policies, processes and procedures.
- Reporting hazardous or defective landscape infrastructure assets to relevant stakeholders, enabling remedial works to be undertaken before potential incidents occur.
About you
The successful appointee must be passionate about the local community, work well in a team environment and have the skills and abilities to produce quality landscape outcomes.
As a collaborative member of the Parks Contracts team, you will be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills which enables the team to operate as a proactive and cohesive unit. Applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they address the following selection criteria:
- Experience in a similar role managing contracts, developing specifications and ensuring contractor compliance.
- Qualifications in relevant discipline such as land management, Certificate IV in Horticulture or project management.
- Skilled in supervising the work of others, providing technical assistance and motivating staff
- Knowledge of landscape management and maintenance practices.
- Understanding of purchasing processes and requirements.
- Contractor management skills and knowledge.
- Experience in the use of information technology and GIS systems.
- Demonstrated customer service and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures.
- An understanding of Local Government operations and/or local government experience.
- Current C class Driver’s License is required
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management is desirable.
