Job Description

We are looking for a strong leader who is has technical expertise in land use planning processes and understanding of highway planning/design and can provide direction to a team of Planner and Officers. If this is you, then bring your knowledge and experience to the Eastern Region, Corridor Management Section.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this exciting role, you will:

  • lead and supervise a team of Corridor Management Officers, providing technical expertise, advice and guidance to Corridor Management Officers, internal and external stakeholders.
  • support and provide guidance in the ministry’s review of politically sensitive and/or complex development proposals.
  • provide specialized advice to internal/external stakeholders and senior ministry officials related to planning and development proposals;
  • participate on committees and the development of policy/procedures;
  • develop and maintain relationships with internal/external stakeholders


How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • This position requires regular travel throughout the province in remote locations with limited access to public transportation


Leadership Skills and Abilities:

  • You have project management, leadership and organizational techniques to lead/coordinate corridor management projects and provide technical direction to project staff


Interpersonal, Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills:

  • You have advanced interpersonal and communication skills to establish, maintain and negotiate effective relationships with senior staff, colleagues and stakeholders, and to prepare reports, briefing materials and recommendations.
  • You have the demonstrated conflict resolution skills to interact with stakeholders with opposing interests and positions.
  • You have proven strong negotiation skills to resolve contentious issues.
  • You have demonstrated consultation and facilitation skills to provide technical advice.


Analytical, Problem – Solving and Researching Skills:

  • You have proven analytical and problem – solving skills to determine compliance, identify and recommend solutions;
  • You have research and investigation skills to assess information, prioritize and develop alternative solutions.


Technical Expertise:

  • You have demonstrated knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles and practices with emphasis on: transportation planning; highway design and construction; and stormwater management.
  • You have proven ability to interpret and apply relevant municipal, provincial and federal legislation, policies, procedures, and standards to review and evaluate land planning and development proposals.
  • You have knowledge of common office software for word processing, data analysis and making presentations to prepare technical reports, briefing and other materials (e.g., Ministers’s letters, correspondence).
