We seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated Clinical Scientist with experience in genetic analysis of cancer susceptibility genes to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient ISO 15189 accredited Clinical Genomics Service. You would be joining a dynamic team of clinical scientists and pre-registered scientists. The post holder will also be required to take responsibility for the testing and reporting of specialised molecular diagnostics investigations, including WGS. They will be involved in the service development and validation, including implementing new tests for personalised cancer medicine and analysis using complex genetics software. In addition, the post holder will be required to support activities such as quality management, including compliance with laboratory accreditation standards, training, and the department’s translational research programme. Good communication, team working, and supervisory skills are essential.The ideal candidate would have an MSc in biological science (or equivalent), be HCPC state-registered Clinical Scientist with relevant post-registration experience and possess FRCPath (minimum Part 1). Ideally, the candidate should have considerable experience in molecular diagnostics service delivery and have a sound understanding of molecular techniques—experience in High throughput sequencing technologies and analysis and variant interpretation is essential.The post holder will offer a high level of scientific and clinical knowledge, expertise, and skill to provide a high-quality and efficient service in Clinical Genomics. They will be responsible for the variant interpretation and reporting of specialised clinical genomics investigations in haematological and solid tumours and for reporting whole genome sequencing results.They will be expected to lead and develop the cancer susceptibility section, including designing and implementing new tests for personalised cancer medicine. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient Clinical Genomics service.Other key activities include monitoring and reporting key performance indicators, training staff in variant interpretation and reporting complex WGS/NGS results and supervision of staff, as well as contributing to the quality management of the department to ensure continuity of service and compliance with professional standards.
