Job Description

A career in Operational Risk Management with the Financial Markets team at National Bank means supporting the business line in identifying, assessing, monitoring, managing, and documenting its operational risks by deploying an efficient and tailored approach that takes into account the specific context of Financial Markets.

As a Senior Advisor, Operational Risk Management – Financial Markets, you will act as a trusted partner and expert advisor to Financial Markets leaders and partners while collaborating closely with key stakeholders involved in the end-to-end processes underlying Financial Markets activities.

Your role

• Participate in the self-assessment of operational risks for the Financial Markets sector, as well as the assessment of controls to mitigate these risks
• Participate in various cross-sector investigations and assessments with the ultimate goal of improving the control environment of the processes that support the business line in order to mitigate operational risk
• Take the lead on various complex initiatives and mandates requiring in-depth knowledge of products offered by the Financial Markets sector, its sub-processes, and systems
• Help continuously improve the sector’s risk management tools to increase the effectiveness of the Financial Markets operational risk management function
• Support the business line in monitoring its action plans and implementing corrective measures
• Take responsibility for and deliver various ad hoc files

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Operational Business Strategies, Resilience & Risk Management in the Financial Markets sector.

Required skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field and 5–7 years of relevant experience in the Financial Markets sector or in operational risk management
• Expert knowledge of financial market activities, products, and structures, and the related systems and operational processes
• Well-developed entrepreneurial spirit and proven leadership skills (cooperation, engagement, influence)
• Excellent priority management skills with a focus on delivering tangible results
• English (spoken/written) is required because you will regularly work with partners throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe

Desired skills

• Operational Risk certification
• Bilingualism, both spoken and written (English and French)
