Who We Are

Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast. WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee. WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Peawanuck. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern Ontario. WAHA consists of 450 employees, a Physician team, many students, as well as community stakeholders. Who You Are

  • Provides clinical leadership, expertise and continuity of care for remote communities
  • Provides clinical consultation services for remote RNs
  • Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices
  • Mentor, coach, and educator for patients/families and remote RNs
  • Knowledge and understanding of the unique needs of the James Bay Region

What You’ll Do

  • In collaboration with the remote RN/patient, complete assessments on patients that present with both acute and chronic illness. 
  • Prescribe treatment/diagnostic testing as able to do so in accordance with CNO and WAHA policy
  • Work independently within scope of his/her practice with limited supports
  • Work with internal and external partners to provide continuity of care and smooth transitions in care
  • Manage call lists in a timely, efficient manner
  • Communicate results to patients and arrange/explain follow up if needed
  • Flexible schedule, which includes weekends

What You Bring

  • Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (master’s prepared)
  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing Science
  • Registered with CNO as a Registered Nurse Extended Class (RN EC)
  • Minimum of 5 years as a registered nurse in an acute care setting
  • Minimum of 3-5 years recent NP experience in a primary care clinic, ambulatory or urgent care setting
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities
  • Experience in providing virtual care in an interprofessional environment
