Job Description
For every specimen received for testing the patient details on the primary specimen label must be checked for correlation with the patient details on the request form and the patient details registered in Auslab.
Provide the first point of client contact for the unit and attend to telephone and reception enquiries from internal and external laboratory clients.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Knowledge of and or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of laboratory information systems (AUSLAB) relevant to the duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work without direct supervision.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and communication skills to enable effective interaction within a work group and between clients (internal and external).
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with a broad range of clients and the ability to accurately process a variety of samples.
- Ability to actively participate in a laboratory working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
