Job Description
This role within the Maintenance Programs Performance & Optimization Team will help drive a culture of safety, efficiency, and innovation by assisting in the development of opportunities and solutions to improve Southwest Airlines MX Program as well as Aircraft Reliability. The Associate Technical Consultant will use data to develop, present, and make recommendations for new ideas, and projects, providing advice to individuals of the organization, and serving as a point of contact for consultation. These improvements
will support company goals including maintaining low costs, modernizing the operation, and improving aircraft maintenance reliability to provide a competitive advantage for Southwest Airlines. To effectively accomplish these goals, this individual will partner with other Operational Departments throughout the company and communicate these initiatives to varying levels of audiences.
Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with Southwest Airlines MPM and FAA Regulations 14 CFR 119.49 and 14 CFR 121.373 for the D074 Reliability Program by analyzing reliability data associated with performance of Intermediate and Heavy Maintenance Visits
- Utilizes aircraft operational data to identify deficiencies and improve the ETOPS and Reliability Maintenance programs
- Perform data collection, validation, and classification on data elements required by the Reliability Program and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods for obtaining and processing data
- Perform root cause analysis on data of diverse scope to measure aircraft/fleet performance for safety, reliability, and economic impact, and identify deficiencies in the Maintenance Program
- Streamlines processes by partnering with team members and collaborating with Customers and Leadership across multiple departments to quickly communicate contextual problems and define, analyze, and deliver innovative solutions based on business objectives
- Work with individuals and groups across Tech Ops, other Departments, and external providers to identify and address adverse trends, evaluate the effectiveness of corrective measures, and provide detailed briefings up to Southwest Executive Leadership
- Evaluate and apply performance standards and statistical analysis methods and propose changes as needed
- Investigates ad-hoc inquiries resulting from emerging maintenance issues and provides appropriate follow-up to Senior Leadership while balancing existing project workload

- Skilled at evaluating SWA and Industry practices and developing potential solutions for gaps identified in standards, practices, or toois
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office products – Word, PowerPoint, and Excel proficiency required

- Knowledge of practices associated with Six Sigma/Lean
- Ability to develop plans and timelines for projects, identifying key stakeholders and executing projects with minimal assistance
- Ability to visualize, articulate, and condense complex initiatives, problems, concepts, etc., into concise, easily understood updates and/or presentations
- Ability to participate in Tech Ops departmental initiatives and ensure the objectives and impacts are clear
- Ability to quickly recognize and clearly define complex problems to systematically analyze and weigh alternatives to propose solutions
- Ability to identify and apply appropriate FAA regulations including AC 120-17B Maintenance Control by Reliability Methods, AC120-16G Air Carrier Maintenance Programs, 14 CFR 121.373 Continuing Analysis and Surveillance, 14 CFR 121.374 (h) MSG-3 based Aircraft Maintenance Programs, and FAA Inspector’s Handbook
- Extensive knowledge of IP44 methodologies of evolving and optimizing scheduled maintenance programs
- Ability to actively listen to, understand, and communicate ideas and present in writing, verbally, or presentations delivered to forums of varying audiences
