Job Summary:

The Company Nurse is a member of the HR team and works closely with the Human Resources and Safety Departments to ensure efficient occupational health services in the Harmony Beef facility. The incumbent will assist with all aspects of health services staffing, competency, processes and quality improvement. The role is responsible to manage the physical evaluation program for pre-employment and treat all injuries and illnesses in a professional manner within the scope of clinical nursing guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform primary assessment & first aid to occupational and non-occupational injuries / illness.

· Guide and direct referrals to outside healthcare providers and services

· Coordinate physical and medical evaluation of candidates for pre-employment and return to work test.

· Arrange drug and alcohol screening as required in accordance to the workplace alcohol and drug testing program.

· Assist the health & Safety Manager with WCB claims to facilitate productivity, assuring care and return to work.

· Assist departments with identifying, evaluating and implementing safety programs

· Manage confidential medical documents & records.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the college of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CCRNA) or Advanced Care paramedic in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in occupational health and safety;
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Working knowledge of safety, human rights and labour standards legislation in Alberta.
  • Current certifications in CPR and First Aid
  • Two (2) years’ experience with WCB claims is required
  • Occupation Health and Safety experience will be an advantage

Other requirements:

  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as scheduled;
  • Must have reliable transportation (no public transportation available);
  • Energetic and self-starter attitude.
