We are recruiting a fixed term Business Analyst to join the MFAT team. This is a rare opportunity to apply your business analysis expertise in an exciting and truly unique environment.

Our Information Management Division (IMD) provides key services to the Ministry in the areas of knowledge and information technology management, ensuring that the Ministry has the digital tools it needs to enable day-to-day business. Our staff are committed to building a safe, more prosperous and sustainable future for all New Zealanders, assisting the government with international priorities and providing advice to the government on the implications for New Zealand of what is happening in the world.

The Project Delivery function in IMD provides fit-for-purpose programme/project management and coordination for the projects within the ICT Portfolio, including supplier management and the resource management of technical specialists from various IMD capability teams.

The Business Analyst is responsible for:

  • Facilitating the delivery of business requirements documents for core infrastructure initiatives
  • Analysing and maintaining non-functional requirements, designs and other key documents across the programme of work
  • Ensuring that there are well researched and documented options at the formative stages of initiatives
  • Partnership development with key project stakeholders
  • Quality assurance across key documentation through close interaction with the Ministry’s EPMO team
  • Actively participating in the Ministry’s Business Analysis Community of Practice

We expect to appoint between $87,672 and the midpoint which is $103,143 (total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution) give or take depending on your level of experience.

Mā‎ wai te mahi nei? – Who are we looking for?

We’d like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a Business Analyst.
  • Experience in the last 3 years with non-functional requirements across all hosting environments including public cloud, private cloud and on-premise.
  • Experience with Platform and Infrastructure Programme projects including server upgrades, laptop lifecycle management, Windows 11 upgrades, printer replacement, telephony replacement, video conferencing replacement, data centre changes.
  • Understanding and application of BA methodologies and framework.
  • Experience with Architecture and Design solution lifecycle processes and documents.
  • Confidence in facilitating workshops and managing requirements from multiple parties.

Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work. If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too – as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability.
