2. What Are Your Strengths and Weaknesses?

A job seeker once told me that she understands if an interviewer is asking to know her strengths, but what she doesn’t quite see the reason for being asked about her weaknesses because to her they are supposed to gauge how well she can work for them and not how she can’t perform. Are you also wondering why they ask to know your weaknesses during an interview? So here is what I told her, which can also benefit you. The weaknesses your interviewer would be pleased to hear are something like, a tendency to avoid asking for help, excessive focus on detail, or difficulty saying no, etc. All these are good weaknesses to say in an interview.

Also, when talking about your weaknesses, highlight how you are actively working towards becoming a better version of yourself. As for the strengths, you already know what the interviewer wants to hear; attention to detail, handling conflict, project management, multitasking, etc. – one hack to know what your interviewer wants is to carefully review the job description. By articulating your strengths and weaknesses thoughtfully, you can make a good impression on your interviewer.

Interviewers ask about the distinction between linear and non-linear data structures to assess a candidate’s fundamental understanding of data structures, their ability to analyze data organization, and their capability to choose the appropriate structure for a given problem based on the complexity of relationships between data elements. So, based on the shape/arrangement of the data pieces, data structures are split into two types. Linear and non-linear data structures are the two types.

8. What Is The Meaning Of A Dangling Pointer? What Should You Do To Handle It?

Dangling pointers occur when a programmer creates, uses, and then frees an object in memory but does not change the object’s pointer value accordingly — in this case, to a null pointer. To handle it, set the pointer to NULL immediately after deallocation. This prevents accidental access to the freed memory.

9. Is it Possible to Print 1-100 Without Using Loops? If so, how?

Before you answer this, understand the reason behind the question; The interviewer is trying to see if you understand that loops are not the only way to achieve iterative results. Start by confidently stating that it is indeed possible to print numbers 1-100 without using explicit loops (like for or while). This can be achieved using recursion. 10. What is the Difference Between a Binary Tree and a Binary Search Tree?

A Binary Tree is a tree with no more than two children per node. The value that a node or its children can have is unrestricted. In the case of a binary tree, searching requires traversing the entire tree.

  • Think of it like a family tree where each person can have up to two kids.
  • The order of the “kids” doesn’t matter.
  • Finding someone in this tree might mean checking every person.

On the other hand, the left subtree of a node can only contain nodes whose values are less than the parent node’s value, and the right subtree of a node can only have nodes whose values are greater than the parent node’s value. In the case of a Binary Search Tree, we simply need to traverse the tree’s height (in the worst-case scenario) for searching.

  • It’s a special family tree where the “kids” are organized.
  • Everyone on the left side is “younger” (smaller value) than the parent.
  • Everyone on the right side is “older” (larger value) than the parent.
  • Finding someone is much faster because you can quickly go left or right.
